Our inner city studio and gallery is located in Northcote, and seeks to nurture and promote artists with an intellectual disability as they develop their art practice. History: For 46 years Arts Project have built a reputation both in Australia and internationally for supporting many highly talented, skilled and passionate artists and raising the visibility of the outstanding work that they produce, right here in Melbourne. Studio: Our Arts Project Australia studio functions similarly to a tertiary art environment, and is located in Northcote. Our studio is attended weekly by more than 150 artists with an intellectual disability, and is welcome to all in Melbourne. Gallery: Alongside the studio, our gallery staff plan and execute a full annual program of rotating exhibitions that feature our artists’ work, alongside that of the broader contemporary art community. Artists receive up to 60% of proceeds of artwork sales. At Arts Project you will: develop skills of your choice, whether it be painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, 3D sculpture or digital media
produce your own artwork and reach your artistic goals
receive guidance and support by our staff of professional artists, functioning within a strong governance framework
find your own authentic voice as an artist
choose to have your artwork exhibited through Arts Project
work with a program that has been recognised as a best practice model The proof of our endeavours lies in the consistency and quality of the exhibitions and programs that we produce and deliver, and the opportunities and experiences we have brokered for our artists. Our artists have been included in exhibitions all over the world, and they are now represented in countless public and private collections. We are very proud to remain committed to providing such scope, vision and support for our artists. Arts Project Australia was awarded the 2016 Hesta Community Sector Award for Outstanding Organisation.
