Navigating your NDIS plan can seem daunting, but breaking it down into its core components can help you manage and maximize your benefits effectively. Your plan is typically divided into three key sections:
Â
This section captures personal details about you, your family, and your broader social circle. It includes information about any services and community groups you're involved with, painting a picture of your existing support network.
Â
Here, you’ll find a detailed outline of your short-term and long-term aspirations, which were discussed during your planning meeting. This section not only lists your goals but also specifies the supports needed to achieve them. It’s a strategic roadmap designed to guide your progress through the NDIS.
Â
This crucial part of your plan breaks down the NDIS funding you receive into three categories: Core, Capital, and Capacity Building. Each category targets different needs and supports:
Â
Informal Supports include non-funded help you receive from family, friends, or community and mainstream services. These supports are essential for daily activities and enhancing your quality of life, but they do not use NDIS funds.
Funded Supports, on the other hand, are financed directly by the NDIS and are designed to meet your specific needs as outlined in your plan. These are deemed 'reasonable and necessary' to help you achieve your outlined goals.
Â
You can manage your NDIS plan in one of three ways:
Â
Knowing each part of your NDIS plan helps you make informed decisions about your care and ensures that you are using your resources in the most effective way possible. It allows you to track your progress towards your goals and make adjustments as needed during plan reviews or when your needs change.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure about any aspect of your NDIS plan, remember help is available. Your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or Support Coordinator can provide guidance. Additionally, platforms like MyCareSpace are excellent resources for finding more information, connecting with service providers, or even changing Plan Managers if necessary.
By fully understanding each segment of your NDIS plan, you can better navigate the system, ensuring you have the supports in place to live a more fulfilling and independent life.
